Granny Sestilia's
linen flower fields and Granddad Pietro's walnut trees belonged
to memories of the past, and all that remained of the San Benedetto
farm were old photo's and many stories...already narrated to the
fourth generation. Nearly
all the houses had been restored for summer vacations, except one
that was not properly a "house" but a loft, a stable,
a wine cellar, an oil mill, a room for olives and Vinsanto grapes.
Today the old Granny Sestilia's wine cellar is Casa Masi, with the
old walls built by expert hands using stones taken from the Egola,
the river that flows near here, with the old round arches that connect
the wine cellar to the oil mill. First of all Casa Masi is a home
and not only a "trattoria", with its many farm objects
pulled down from the shelves and the attic, which wink among the
colours and the scent of "panzanelle".
Here Luciana and Alessandro Masi present the specialities of their
family tradition; Mommy and Granny's recipes take you back to childhood
tastes and scents. Only fresh ingredients of the region are used
to create the"a la carte" menu that changes according
to the season; in Autumn the real protagonist is white truffle new
olive oil and fresh olives, liver with turnips. In the Spring you
can taste lamb and artichokes, and in the Summer guinea-hen and
mushrooms, home-made bread and home-made cakes.
The wine list is personally selected by Alessandro: he proposes
about 150 types of wine among the best ones produced exclusively
in Tuscany.

Today, the homestead the surrounding farmhouses, and the barns can
accomodate people that never tire of country, of the meadows, or
sunshine, of the nightingales and crickets.
A pause after lunch in the brooms and lemon tree gardens, a holiday
spent by the swimming pool in the middle of vineyard, children who
play with cats and adults who linger with a glass of good wine...Granny
Sestilia's farm is once again alive!
